Paducah is a city positioned in far western Kentucky. It is located in McCracken County and serves as the county seat. Paducah is the largest city in McCracken County. It was estimated by the United States Census Bureau that almost 26,000 people lived in Paducah in 2016. Also, Paducah is the largest city in the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky. This region of the state is bounded by the Mississippi River, the Ohio River, and the Tennessee River.
Original inhabitants of the area where Paducah is located were Native American Indians. The first European to arrive in the area was George Rogers Clark. When Clark arrived in 1778 he is said to have “claimed” the site of Paducah. However, the land was part of the Chickasaw territory until the Jackson Purchase which occurred in 1818. In 1830, Paducah was incorporated and two years later the city was chosen to serve as the county seat of McCracken Today, County.
